“Help rebuild flood-damaged school libraries and restore the joy of reading for children”

During the recent floods caused by Cyclone Ditwa, many essential social infrastructures were damaged or destroyed, including roads, schools, and libraries. Among these losses were school libraries that once served as safe, inspiring spaces for learning and imagination.

We are Tharanga Publishers, a small Sri Lankan publishing company with over 35 years of experience publishing and translating children’s and young adult literature. We aim to restore access to reading for children in flood-affected areas by rebuilding and refurbishing school libraries.

Our project will begin with Anuradhapura Central College and expand to other flood-affected schools where possible. The initiative includes repairing library cupboards and furniture, rebuilding safe and functional spaces, and supplying books sourced at wholesale rates through our publishing network.

If funds raised exceed the requirements of the first school, surplus funds will be directed towards restoring additional flood-affected school libraries.

Tharanga Publishers is a Sri Lankan publishing house with a history spanning over 35 years, specialising in children’s and young adult fiction. Beyond publishing, we are deeply committed to literacy as a social responsibility.

Previously, Tharanga Publishers has supported school libraries, including a donation of books to Kalawana Rajasingha Vidyalaya (in 2024), reinforcing our long-term commitment to children’s access to reading.

Total: LKR 10,000,000 (estimated)



• January – February: Fundraising and coordination with schools
• March – April: Carpentry, furniture repair, and rebuilding work
• May onwards: Book procurement, setup, and library handover

Timelines may be adjusted based on school access and site conditions.
