In 2016, we created 'One Child', The basis being that one able and hard-working child can, with the right means of education and advice, grow into an adult who can lift an entire family or even a whole community, out of financial and social difficulty. We have heard of numerous examples of how an individual prospers and thrives, thereby introducing his or her entire family to a better life. What about all those individuals who had to give up their struggle for a better life due to their financial circumstances? They had to stop schooling to earn for the family or curb educational potential for the same reason. We all may personally know many individuals who, if the environment was right, would have gone much further in life.

Our project 'One Child', uses this concept to seek out an intelligent and hard-working child from a less affluent background, and pair them with a family, who will assist them, not just financially to achieve their true potential, but more importantly, to provide valuable emotional and life guidance to the child and the child's family unit. Currently we are sponsoring five children from Pitigala (South), Kalutara (South), Marawila (North-West) and Kandy (Central). The results have been amazing with not just the children benefiting, but their families as well.

So we are looking to increase the number of deserving children under our care. To enable this, we need Rs. 60,000 per year to support each child (Rs. 5,000 per month), so we are coming to you seeking your invaluable support.

How the Child and Family Benefits:

- The association between the two families would benefit both parties. The recipient family will get financial support and mentoring, with advice regarding decisions relating to education and finances.
- The mutual exposure to the other's environment. Eg. rural vs urban - Possible matching of families from different Communities and religious backgrounds will help in understanding each others' traditions and values, and aid in cultural, religious and racial integration.
- The donor family can learn to appreciate and value what they already have.

Functions of the One Child foundation/trust:

- ‘One Child’ will function to identify intelligent children with potential for further studies and achievements, but whose family, at the same time, is in need of financial support to enable the child to stay in school and continue with their education.
- Find individuals or families who are willing to take on a supportive role. Whereby, they provide a monthly financial contribution to make continued education a possibility. They should also be willing to provide support, in the form of guidance (initially educational and later career minded) and mentoring to the child and the family unit.
- ‘One Child’ will also keep track of the child's progress and payments made to the family, and guidance provided.

Each child is given Rs. 5,000 every month, to be used for the sole purpose of assisting in their educational journey. This amount is transferred directly into the parent’s bank account via a standing order placed at Hatton National Bank, Greenpath branch.

Our target is to raise Rs. 300,000 and this contribution will be deposited directly into the centralised fund to be disbursed monthly to each child. If you wish to help on a longer term basis, please contact us direclty.


In an effort to sustain and give individual attention, our goal for how many children we sponsor at any given time is small. Our Board of directors comprises of four individuals who have this goal very close to their hearts. The accounts are audited by Ernst and Young.
