“"Empowering Cultural Life Practice Through Sri Lankan Artistry!"”

EGO and ECO is Cultural artistic camping event specially the local people who would interesting to practice gathering, cultural life and solitude practice with alternative artistes. The event held on five days in the mountains and beach sides around the Sri Lanka with selected artistes, students, government and public sectors, natura lovers, farmers who opium of the masses.

Era of Artificial Intelligence, A number of people have been addicted to consuming digital devices and social media. For instance, psychology diseases and isolating situations are alarming in the World as equal in Sri Lanka. Lack of confidence, decreasing creative thinking power and committed suicide rates have increased regardless of age; Therefore, people should follow a community disciplinary lifestyle instead of agreeing with the similar Me-time materialistic consuming concept. Under these circumstances, we believe that providing quality feeling aesthetic is effect for citizen to imbue their mind power, mind-fullness and quality behaviours are able to thrive the society. In other hand younger artistes will realize and motivate that the value of the making quality artistic works and what kind of policies, principles and life routine they should follow for their own people instead selling own creativity for companies that work solely for profits.

The Solitude Theatre has been searching for a new artistic way to engage with Local People to show a way to release the stressful society life and value of self-aware and consuming cultural life. They believed that Self-awareness is the way to understand Nature. Embracing “Law of Attraction” instead welcomes “Law of Action”. We believed working together is the healthiest way rather than working alone in the world.

The aim of this program is to provide people and children from various fields with an understanding of the relationship between art a ourselves, our environment and make a space for young artistes to practice, awareness and research “I” and “Other” perspectives. On the other hand, we both adults and youngest, are creating a space for ourselves to gain understanding from ourselves, setting aside the societal position that art and life are more intrinsically linked to our lives than what we study as a subject. This event has created by according to Buddhist, Psychology aspects and Performing arts-based activities.

Given the challenging times Sri Lankan Theatre is facing currently, we are confident that donors will be generous enough to help us achieve the target of 400,000 LKR. Ego and Eco is a five-day cultural event mingle with performing arts activities and meditation. Selected 10 persons are able to be participated the event. This budget will be addressing 10 persons and researchers and assist team for five-day expense. (All are 15 persons)

The Solitude Theatre is, collection of young artists who have been engaged in creating since 2024. In alternative creative spaces than the mainstream art spaces, who strive to update each subject more and more by studying the subject they are curious about theoretically and practically. Often, they create a dialogue with nature and their ownself, away from society, and present their own experimental artworks to the audience. Local young artists, independent researchers who still love the creative within themselves can all be called The Solitude Theatre.

We have been practicing and searching new ways to engage with the people in our artistic forms. Develop creative spaces that diverge from traditional proscenium theatre models in an era dominated by individual-cantered commercial and political economies. As mass arts increasingly prioritize profit, this study proposes an alternative approach that fosters deeper personal and social engagement through cultural activities such as reading, watching films and plays, discuses and participating in community gatherings. The Solitude Theatre aims to explore how these alternative creative spaces can enhance self-awareness, social responsibility, and cultural appreciation.

We are especially focused to help young artistes to thrive their life as a full-time artiste who has a sound educational background, own creativity and self-discipline around the country without any social hierarchy. If we have found many young keen artists, at this moment few of them engage with The Solitude Theatre dedicated since without any source of income to keep them around the working space. We found our expenses from one day and three-day camping workshops. If have strived before to success Ego & Eco and we ignore some funders and who have had bad anterior motive. If we will able to achieve the target, this would be very first step of EGO & EECO.

We hope to start collecting fund in August and end before 25th October for a November first weekend the evet is held.

I am Desha Vimukthi Bandara, a Theater practitioner, Founder of The Solitude Theatre and I’ve been working in the Sri Lankan theatre since 2011. My companions are Sakuna Ranasinghe, creative writer and cinematographer, who he has been with since 2015. Sandeepa Perera, Artiste and committee member LGBTQ community of Sri Lanka.
