The blood requirement at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital is critical, given its status as one of the largest hospitals in the Northern Province, where major surgeries and blood transfusion treatments are routine. Consequently, the demand for blood is exceedingly high, yet the blood bank storage is insufficient to meet this demand. The general hospitals in Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Mannar, and Vavuniya, as well as Jaffna Teaching Hospital, depend on the Blood Bank to fulfill the shortage of blood in emergencies.

One of Save a Life's initiatives involves conducting blood donation camps in collaboration with the Blood Bank at Jaffna Teaching Hospital, alongside awareness programs aimed at encouraging community members to donate blood. While the current efforts have fallen short of achieving anticipated outcomes, Save a Life has planned to increase the frequency of awareness campaigns and blood donation camps throughout the Jaffna region.

The significance of increasing the number of blood donation camps cannot be overstated in maintaining adequate blood storage at the Blood Bank. Furthermore, raising awareness about blood donation also plays a pivotal role. Ensuring a sufficient blood supply through donations is crucial for providing timely medical care during emergencies. Cultivating a culture of regular blood donation within the community is essential for effective response to such events.

This cultural shift necessitates addressing doubts, misconceptions, and fears regarding blood donation among community members. Targeting the youth population of the Northern Province through educational programs and outreach initiatives can help instill a culture of blood donation from an early age. Save a Life intends to publicly recognize and appreciate blood donors for their invaluable contribution to public healthcare. This recognition will be carried out through various channels such as social media, newsletters, and possibly offering small tokens of appreciation like badges or branded merchandise.

Additionally, Save a Life is developing a strategic plan to conduct blood donation camps and awareness programs with trained staff and volunteers. This will ensure that the donation process is smooth and comfortable for donors, and maintain communication with donors to keep them engaged and encourage repeat donations thereby maximizing participation and contribution to the cause.

Save a Life requires substantial funding to effectively execute this initiative. The estimated budget required for this purpose amounts to LKR 1 million. Save a Life anticipates the generous contributions of donors to support the livelihood enhancement of the differently abled.

Save a Life is a youth-led NGO registered under the VSSO Act with the NGO Secretariat. Our headquarters are situated in the Jaffna District, and we primarily focus on the Health and Environment sectors in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka.

Save a Life is a youth-led registered non-governmental organization located in Jaffna working with youth volunteers mainly focusing on health and environment sectors in the Northern Province. The organization initiated its operations in 2014, primarily focusing on blood donation activities. Subsequently, it attained non-governmental organization status in 2019. Since its inception, the organization has undertaken numerous donor-based projects, both ongoing and completed, particularly within the Northern Province.
