“Let's raise the education of poor school children in Sri Lanka”

The current state of the country has severely hindered parents’ ability to send their children to school. Some of the common issues that have arisen are:

• Declining income levels of parents
• Rising cost of school supplies and books
• Increasing food insecurity
• Increasing costs of transportation

Children in remote areas of the island are especially impacted by these problems. These factors have reignited our commitment to our cause as a good education is the only way we can help these children secure their future.

Our goal is to provide essential educational materials to at least 1000 children for the new school term by January 2023. We kindly request your assistance in our endeavour. Please consider donating to us and letting your friends and family know about who we are and what we’re trying to do.

Given the challenging times Sri Lankan society is currently facing, we are confident that donors will be generous enough to help us reach our target of around 10 million rupees. We are a volunteer group known as AYANNA SRI LANKA. Ayanna is the first letter of the Sinhala alphabet and the basic step of formal education is to learn the first letter of one's alphabet. This represents our primary purpose – we strive to provide a quality education for the children of Sri Lanka. We believe that every child deserves a bright future regardless of their race, religion, gender, or social class.

We deal with children all over the island by publishing educational material in Sinhala through our website ayanna.lk, which has been in operation since 2015. This website is completely free to use as we consider this our civic duty. We simply want all Sri Lankan children to have easy access to knowledge.

I am Hemantha Wijesiri, a web and software developer. I have been engaged in it since 2001. Apart from that, I volunteer for the educational needs of poor children. My partner is Kumari Ranasinghe and she is currently teaching economics. She has been working with me on projects since 2003.
