Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We write this with heavy hearts, but also with hope.

Who we are

My name is Chandika Sumal Sooriyarachchi. I am from Sri Lanka and I am the husband of Nisansala Maduwanthi, who is the owner of our small, family-run hardware business. I am managing this campaign on behalf of my spouse and our family.

Our journey

We have been running our small hardware store since 2018. From the very beginning, our journey was filled with struggles. Our first shop was far from our home and was not successful. It was a rented place, yet we continued to work honestly and patiently despite many hardships.

Later, we managed to move closer to our residence, near the Galle–Colombo main road. With hard work, sacrifice, and long hours, the business slowly began to grow. We worked with the Bank of Ceylon (BOC), and after many challenges, the bank supported us with facilities, including overdue facilities during difficult times. Then COVID-19 struck and almost destroyed everything we had built. Still, we held on. To survive, we pawned all our gold, took personal loans, and used every possible facility just to keep the business alive. Even today, those loans are ongoing, including facilities under my spouse’s ID. As we were trying to recover, Sri Lanka was again affected by severe weather. The recent Cyclone Ditwah disrupted daily life, reduced customer movement, and further weakened our already fragile financial situation.

Our current crisis

Now we are facing an unexpected and devastating situation. The owner of our rented shop has asked us to vacate immediately. We have no savings left, no capital, and no strength to take another heavy loan. Although the bank agreed to provide a loan, the approved amount is very small, and most of it will be deducted to settle previous loans—leaving us with almost nothing to move forward.

In this moment of despair, we discovered crowd funding through YouTube, and it gave us a small light of hope. We truly believe that kind-hearted people may help us stand again.

How the funds will be used (full transparency)

Our only solution now is to move the hardware store to our own residence. We have a small concrete slab area, but to operate the shop we must build basic infrastructure.

The funds raised will be used only for:

Constructing a simple shop hall on our residential property Building a basic staircase and roadside-facing access Purchasing essential construction materials and paying minimum labor costs The estimated total cost is LKR 2,000,000. This relocation is critical for us to continue earning an income and supporting our family. The funds will not be used for luxury, personal spending, or unrelated purposes.

Our promise

I fully understand that I will be held accountable for using the funds exactly as stated in this campaign, and I am fully committed to honesty and transparency. This is not for luxury. This is for survival. This is for our family’s future.

We are a small family from Sri Lanka whose only livelihood is a family-run hardware store started in 2018. Our journey has never been easy. We began in a rented location far from our home, faced low income, and struggled as a small startup, but we continued with honesty, patience, and hard work.

After some time, we managed to move closer to our residence near the Galle–Colombo main road, where the business slowly began to stabilize. With the support of the Bank of Ceylon and despite many financial challenges, we worked hard to grow the business and support our family.

However, COVID-19, ongoing loan repayments, and later the impact of Cyclone Ditwah severely affected our income and stability. To survive, we pawned our gold and took personal loans, many of which are still ongoing.

Today, we are facing a critical situation as the owner of our rented shop has asked us to vacate immediately. With no savings left and insufficient bank support, our only option is to relocate the business to our own residence by building a simple structure so we can continue earning and supporting our family with dignity.


Proposed Budget Breakdown (LKR 2,000,000)

1. Basic Shop Hall Construction – LKR 1,200,000 Brick/block work Cement, sand, metal Roofing materials Basic finishing (plastering)

Budget Transparency Note All funds raised will be used strictly according to this budget for relocating and rebuilding our family-run hardware store at our residence. No funds will be used for personal luxury or unrelated purposes.

Timeline Note This plan may adjust slightly depending on weather conditions and material availability, but all funds will be used strictly according to the campaign purpose.

We are a small, hardworking family from Sri Lanka, earning our living through a family-run hardware store started in 2018. Our business is owned by Nisansala Maduwanthi, and this campaign is managed by her husband, Chandika Sumal Sooriyarachchi, on behalf of our family.

We have always depended on honest work, long hours, and perseverance to support our household. Our hardware store is our only source of income, and through it we have served our local community while taking care of our family responsibilities.

Over the years, we have faced many challenges—financial struggles, COVID-19, ongoing loan commitments, and most recently the impact of Cyclone Ditwah. Despite everything, we have continued to work with dignity and hope.

Today, we are seeking support not for comfort or luxury, but to protect our livelihood and rebuild sustainably by relocating our small business to our own residence. We are committed to full transparency, accountability, and keeping our supporters informed every step of the way.
