Hello, my name is Geeshan Bandara and I am one of the Executive Producers of Patta History – a platform dedicated to telling stories of Sri Lankan history in a fun and meaningful way.

Our stories are split into ‘bite-sized’ episodes that are entertaining and packed with information. It’s been a pleasure to have brought two incredible stories of our history to life, but we need your help for our next goal.

Our wish is to bring the story of our Independence: ‘1948 – Rebirth of a Nation’ to our audience in Sinhala and for this we need your financial support. Our philosophy is that all these stories of our history belong to all of us, the Sri Lankan people – and letting a wider Sinhala-speaking audience enjoy and appreciate it would be the ultimate dream.

Patta History was conceived by Ruwani and myself at the time the covid pandemic first came to light. We realized that we wanted to tell stories of our history and that South Asia in particular was underrepresented in the media.

We looked around and realised that there's so much Western content being consumed and while there is some newly emerging Sri Lankan and South Asian media, there is not enough to call our own. We are focused on telling stories told from the Asian perspective to a hungry audience, wanting to enrich their identity.

We are also Children of the Internet - we knew that the format we chose should be familiar to an audience who have grown up or are comfortable learning and engaging online.

We hope to have the funding in place by 30th January for a February 04 release.

I am Geeshan Bandara, a Wedding Photojournalist by profession, a business I’ve been running since 2011. My partner is Ruwani Hettiarachchi, Chief Growth Officer of a Sri Lankan Healthcare Corporation, who she has been with since 2015.
