A single intra-ocular lens (the synthetic lens which is inserted into each eye after the affected lens is removed) can restore the sight . The procedure takes about 20 minutes and the patient will recover fully after 1 week. However Constant medical checkup and medication will have to be administered for couple of months

Funds are required to pay for the lens, medical professional, medical tests prior to the operation PCR test and medication.

A medical check up is done before the surgery which includes an ultra sound test to measure the size and shape of your eye in order to determine the right type of lens to implant. In addition the doctors also advise the patient to get an ECG and blood tests for sugar and cholesterol and a PCR

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic and the fall of the economy Sri Lanka government has slashed the FD interest by nearly 50% which is affecting my day to day income and activities.

Even though cataract operation facilities are available in government hospitals they are not performing them at the moment due to the rush of covid patients.

My eye problem was detected in April 2021. I have not been able to get an appointment with the government hospital for the surgery. And finally decided to do the operation in a private hospital because I don’t want to take any chances with my eye.

I hope to commence fund raising immediately and plan to start the operation latest by end September or early October2021.

I am a retired personnel and a single mother. One daughter who is doing her higher studies at the moment and pays for studies with the income she earns. Due to the reduction in FD interest I find it difficult to meet my eye operation cost and attend to my day to day expenses.
